Winter Skin Care

Winter Skin Care
As you know winters are approaching, so are you really eagerly waiting for it to come? But be careful, winters can harm your skin. Although skin is the protective layer of our body but it needs protection too. Where the summer heat burns and tans the skin, the chilly harsh dry wind of winter leaves the skin dry, scaly and itchy. If not taken proper care, one can end up in an irritating situation. We would be discussing here some natural ways to maintain your baby soft skin.

* The first and foremost thing is to keep your skin moisturized as the dry wind strips the essential oil and moisture from the skin. Apply an oil-based moisturizer frequently or whenever required. As soon as you are out from a bath/ shower, apply the moisturizer as the wet skin seals it in. Moisturizing creams and lotions with vitamin A and c, Avocado, Shea Butter, Almond Oil and other natural ingredients work wonders.
* Applying a paste of skim milk powder with lavender, rose or your preferred oil is very useful. A rose or lavender oil massage is also good for dry skin.
* Apply a mask of Avocado and wash off after leaving for 15-20 minutes. Avocado can also be eaten.
* Long hot showers should be avoided even though they feel great in winters. The hot water rips off the moisture from your skin leaving it dry. Have short warm showers instead of it and apply a good moisturizing lotion or cream after patting your skin dry. You can also have an oil massage before your bath. This will help in locking the moisture in.
* Add a handful of cornstarch in water and have a soak. It is an excellent remedy for dry and itchy skin.
* Though everyone is aware of the importance of sunscreens in summers, very few know about the significance of it in winters. Wear a sunscreen with SPF 15 or more on the exposed parts of body. The application of sunscreen on the exposed parts like face will not only prevent it from sun damage but will also prevent it from cold weather adding to the moisture level.
* Do not forget to use lip balms. Lips being the sensitive part need a high level of protection especially in winters. Lip balms act as a protective barrier for lips against the unfavorable weather conditions. Do not lick your lips too.
* Exfoliate your skin on weekly basis to remove the dry and dead skin. A homemade scrub can also be prepared for this reason. Soak some almonds overnight in whipped milk cream (quantity can be like 5-6 almonds in one-fourth cup of whipped milk cream). Grind it and add two tbps of sesame oil in it. Use this as a scrub.
* Dress appropriately in warm layers. Choose cotton fabric as the innermost wear that touches your skin. Socks and gloves are a must for all in winters not only when going out but also at home. Whenever your hands are to be in contact with chemicals (dishwashing/home cleansers, detergents etc) for cleaning or washing purpose, special gloves for these purposes should be wore.
* Do not use harsh soaps, as they are harmful for skin. Use gentle soaps. Liquid or herbal soaps are good options. Ground green gram paste can also be used in place of soap.
* Keep your home humidified. You can use humidifier or steam water by putting it on slow boil to balance the humidity level.
* Exercise regularly. This will regulate the circulation besides providing warmth to your body.
* Don't reduce your water intake because of winters. Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty.
* Include dairy products like cheese and milk, Soaked almond oils, Indian Gooseberry (Amla), warm soups and of course more fruits and green vegetables in your diet. Intake of flaxseed oil is also beneficial. Avoid junk and oily food especially if you have oil skin.

With these methods now, you can enjoy this lovely winter season without any fear.
